This Week: 3 Opportunities to Take A Leadership Role With Our No On Prop 1 Campaign

By September 5, 2017Blog Post

To stop Proposition 1, we’re going to need every single fair-minded resident of Anchorage actively involved in our No On Prop 1 campaign. Whether you’re brand-new to the issue of transgender non-discrimination, or a seasoned volunteer who’s been in this fight for years, we have a way for you to make a big impact.

This week, we’ll have three nights of activities that are a great introduction to the No On Prop 1 campaign. Make sure to RSVP to the meetup that sounds most meaningful to you:

  • Tuesday, Sept. 5th at 7PM: Transgender Leadership Council (TLC) meeting, 1057 W. Fireweed Lane. Click here to RSVP.

Since Proposition 1 targets transgender people in Anchorage for harassment and discrimination, the TLC—which is open to transgender and gender non-binary persons— is designed to ensure emerging transgender leaders in Anchorage are at the forefront of the movement against it. Recently, the TLC organized the Mara Keisling public education event, and will be responsible for organizing other public education events.

  • Wednesday, Sept. 6th at 6PM: Community Action Board (CAB) meeting, St. Mary’s Episcopal Church, 2222 E. Tudor Rd. Click here to RSVP.

The Community Action Board is the No On Prop 1 campaign’s primary organizing space for LGBT persons and their allies. Because CAB involves coalition and community partners, it will be a hub for general planning on how to advance the cause of fairness in Anchorage and fight against Proposition 1. At tomorrow’s meeting, Fair Anchorage Community Organizer Andrea Zekis will share a presentation on how activists can effectively use public education to fight Proposition 1.

  • Thursday, September 7th at 6PM: Volunteer Activist Kickoff, 1057 W. Fireweed Lane. Click here to RSVP.

Making phone calls, knocking on doors and getting to know where prospective voters stand on preserving fairness in Anchorage will be our primary volunteer needs. Right now, many people in Anchorage may not really know the harmful effects of targeting our transgender neighbors, so it’s up to us to educate. Join the No On Prop 1 campaign on Thursday and help us get started.

We’ll have regular TLC, CAB and volunteer meetings on a weekly, bi-weekly and monthly basis, so make sure you sign up now to stay in the loop on our campaign to defeat Prop 1.
